History of Squadron 24 Sons of American Legion

The Sons of the American Legion Squadron 24 was chartered in August of 1985 with the guidance of Post 24 American Legion Commander Tony Fiedler; Kansas American Legion Commander Stuart Brenn; and endorsement of the National Sons of American Legion. Jim Flood Jr. was the first Squadron Commander with just fourteen (14) members.

The Sons of the American Legion is made up of boys and men of all ages whose parents or grandparents served in the United States military and became eligible for membership in the American Legion.
 

Over the years Squadron 24 has won a number of awards including the National Americanism Best Squadron in the Mid-West Region in 1993.

Squadron 24 presently carries a paid membership of 172 members. Current Commander David Redger is pushing to top that number for the 2009/2010 membership year.

Programs supported by the Sons of the American Legion are: Children and Youth; assisting the American Legion support of the Citizen’s Flag Alliance to secure the flag of the United States from desecration; Child Welfare Foundation; and several other Veteran’s programs. Along the way the “Son’s” have become the largest donators to the American Legion Child Welfare Foundation.
